{"id":3726,"date":"2025-10-31T15:46:04","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T19:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=3726"},"modified":"2025-10-31T19:34:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T23:34:59","slug":"october-2025-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=3726","title":{"rendered":"October 2025 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Coastal Haiti Mission<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><br \/>\nOctober 2025\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">-BLESSED ENCOUNTER-<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We were in New York City.\u00a0 My late husband and I had come there to attend a convention of the the Full Gospel Business Mens\u2019 Fellowship International.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, it was time well spent.\u00a0 The convention room in the hotel was <em>electric. <\/em>Jesus Christ was lifted up and adored through the worship, praise, and testimonies of men and woman of various ages and diverse nationalities.\u00a0 Together, in one accord, we shook the rafters with the potent and weighty songs of the Church.\u00a0 A bright light in a sometimes dark place.<\/p>\n<p>It was about 9 p.m., when back in our hotel room, Clint and I decided to go out on the street and find someone to share the Gospel with.\u00a0 (We just wanted <em>everyone <\/em>in the world to know Jesus!)<\/p>\n<p>Back on the street after leaving our hotel we just began walking, trusting the Holy Spirit to lead us to the right one.\u00a0 As we approached a subway station we found him.\u00a0 He was an older gentleman, alone and sitting on the stairs that led down to the trains.\u00a0 We went over and joined him on the stairs.\u00a0 At<em> that <\/em>moment, at <em>that <\/em>subway station, on <em>that <\/em>staircase,<em> that <\/em>man became the most important man in the city to us.\u00a0 We felt such a tenderness toward him as we told him about God\u2019s love for him and about what Jesus did for him and for us.\u00a0 (I think he may have been Jewish.)\u00a0\u00a0 He was a lovely man, and put up with us from the beginning.\u00a0 And he seemed to be listening to what we had to say.\u00a0 He had an apartment in the city, but because he was claustrophobic he couldn\u2019t spend much time in it, forcing him to the street.\u00a0 As I recall, His children (don\u2019t know how many) were not a part of his life at that time.<\/p>\n<p>We ended our visit by going for coffee together.\u00a0 He insisted on paying for his own. Before Clint and I departed from him we invited him to come as our guest to the convention banquet the next evening.\u00a0 We made arrangements to meet him outside the hotel.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t come.\u00a0 We never saw him again.\u00a0 But the whole thing was a blessed encounter.<\/p>\n<p>I hope some day when both Clint and I are in heaven (not because of anything we did or didn\u2019t do, but because of <em>WHAT\u00a0 JESUS DID!) <\/em>a man approaches us and asks if we remember a night long ago in New York City when we joined him on the subway stairs\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully we planted a seed that night.\u00a0 You know the routine \u2013 \u201cone plants and another reaps.\u201d\u00a0 (John 4:36 KJV)<\/p>\n<p>As a young child I grew up in the Presbyterian Church.\u00a0 Later on in years my family began attending a\u00a0 community church closer to home.\u00a0 It was a good church with good people.\u00a0 It was not, however, what you would call \u201cconservative.\u201d\u00a0 To me, at that time, the world was <em>central, <\/em>and the church <em>peripheral. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>As it does, the passing of time brought marriage to my sailor husband and I, eventually a home of our own, and the blessing or our own sweet Baby James.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to say all was well, but it was not.\u00a0 To borrow from what Candy, of the singing couple <em>Tom and Candy <\/em>once said,\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know how to be a wife, and he didn\u2019t know how to be a husband.\u00a0\u00a0 Surely something was missing in our lives, too.<\/p>\n<p>It kind of came home one Easter Eve.\u00a0 I worked evenings at an ice cream parlor and often worked late.\u00a0 That night, after cleaning up. we fellow employees sat around and had a drink together before closing shop for the night.\u00a0 Later, on my way home a I felt a thud under my car.\u00a0 I pulled over to find that I had hit a rabbit (on Easter Eve!).\u00a0 It managed to make its way onto a neighbor\u2019s lawn and then lay down.\u00a0 I found it there and picked it up.\u00a0 It was dead.\u00a0 I was aware of something warm running down my hand.\u00a0 It was blood.\u00a0 I was heart broken.<\/p>\n<p>At home I went into my son\u2019s room as he slept.\u00a0 So <em>pure, <\/em>so <em>clean, <\/em>so <em>innocent <\/em><em>Who was I?\u00a0 Were are we going?\u00a0 What\u2019s it all about?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In desperation one night I got down on my knees.\u00a0 I told the Lord that <em>if He was real, we needed Him in our hearts and home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s all it took.\u00a0 The next day I received a call from my Pentecostal neighbor inviting me down for coffee.\u00a0\u00a0 With great intent she talked with me for hours about Jesus Christ.\u00a0 When her husband came home he took over.<\/p>\n<p>I invited Jesus the Christ to come into my heart that day.\u00a0 My husband invited Him in one week later.\u00a0 Our conversion was immediate.\u00a0 Our relationship was changed.<\/p>\n<p>Our home was changed.\u00a0 Now the Church is central in my thinking and the world is peripheral!\u00a0 All because a couple took the time to lead us to our Lord.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Walking this Way with you,<\/p>\n<p>Connie<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Food for the Needy Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Thank God who blesses and sustains this program, so it never stops. We can&#8217;t ask for more, but we strive to do more each month.<\/strong><strong> Even though the idea is to help some of the most vulnerable people get something to eat, in truth, we always go beyond that. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You\u2019d be surprised to hear that we\u2019ve brought food to hospitals, to improve the living conditions of some elderly individuals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>There are some gestures we\u2019ve made with people that are deeply meaningful, but unfortunately, no photo could ever capture their fervent gratitude\u2014especially the way they express their thankfulness to us.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Occasionally on Sundays, we offer coffee and bread in the morning when people come to church. It\u2019s one of the branches of the program that means a lot to them. Under the leadership of the church, many gathered to entrust this school year into the hands of the Lord. It was Deaconess Philomene who prayed for all the students.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>With bright smiles on their faces, the children returned to school, which, according to their own words, they had missed dearly. You could see it in the expressions of both parents and students as they arrived. As usual, we were happy to welcome them. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>God allowed us to prepare everything as we always do. The courtyard was swept and ready, there was water in the faucet for them to drink\u2014<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">but that was never enough, because as usual, they peeked toward the kitchen.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>It was with joy that they noticed Rosiana and Mrs. Yvene were present, but what mattered most was the smoke rising from the kitchen, a sign that lunch was being prepared for them.<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Through God\u2019s goodness and mercy, this school continues to provide both the bread Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Coastal Haiti Mission ministry in Haiti, more specifically in Cahess, is doing very well.<\/strong> <strong>We say &#8216;very well&#8217; when we realize the level of satisfaction among the people in the area and all they benefit from the mission\u2019s activities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The children never miss their Saturday meetings with Miss Nana, which we call &#8216;Saturday Sunday School.&#8217; Some of them walk more than 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) to attend every Saturday, which shows how much they love it. I feel the encouragement they receive is worth gold to them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching here doesn\u2019t work without food\u2014if you try to speak without it, the students won\u2019t retain anything. But we\u2019re confident that Miss Nana\u2019s messages are getting through, because they\u2019re always accompanied by a little something to eat.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>All of this is thanks to the support of many people in the USA. So, they purchased different types of young trees to distribute to the members.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Today, many of those fruit trees have already begun to bear fruit. Notably, we have a pomegranate tree that is already producing. It\u2019s a challenging plant to grow, and no one in the area has had one before. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Personally, it\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve ever seen what a pomegranate looks like. We were only able to buy one tree because even the people who grow and sell this tree, didn\u2019t have many available. According to the seller, it is a very difficult fruit tree to cultivate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I thought it would take three more years before I\u2019d see it bear fruit, but in less than two years since planting, it has already started producing. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Some people have even harvested passion fruit and begun selling them\u2014these came from the passion fruit vines distributed through the Solidarity Garden initiative.<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, we\u2019re looking forward to seeing other trees like lemon and orange begin to bear fruit. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Daly, one of the garden coordinators here, took some photos of the fruit trees. We\u2019ll share a few to show the public how things are progressing. The children already have food on their plates, and the teachers are present every day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>However, regarding our latest request, we are still waiting. Specifically, I\u2019m talking about the four new classrooms we want to build for the students. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We are the ones on the ground, and we can testify to the poor condition of the hangar we currently use\u2014it\u2019s not comfortable for the classes held underneath it. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For example, it\u2019s difficult to concentrate on the lessons being taught because of the noise and distractions happening in adjacent classrooms.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A good friend, a servant of God who was moved by our situation, generously offered us $5,000, which has already been sent. Everyone is talking about Melissa. It\u2019s not the first cyclone to devastate the country, but it seems to be one of the most talked-about, given how much people are discussing it. It\u2019s frightening and harmful. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s true that Haiti wasn\u2019t at the cyclone\u2019s center, but that didn\u2019t stop us from recieving significant damage \u2014 both in the red alert zones and the orange alert zones. Even areas under green alert suffered losses because the government didn\u2019t see everything in time. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For more than 10 days, we haven\u2019t seen the sun. Wind and rain have been nearly constant. Today, almost everyone has a fever, cold, and headaches. Many say it\u2019s because they got soaked in the rain too often. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>These cyclones always worsen our already dire situation, increasing the suffering of the poor. No one could really go out, yet the poor live day by day. Every day they must go out to seek a living, but this cyclone forced everyone to stay home out of fear. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In conclusion, while we saw major flooding in other areas, it wasn\u2019t like that in our zone this time. Still, we suffered all the damage. Our homes \u2014 especially those of the most vulnerable \u2014 were already in poor condition, and some were nearly destroyed by the wind. Since our area is close to the sea, we experienced more wind than anything else. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>What the cyclone left us with is a sharp increase in misery and hunger, along with fever, colds, and headaches \u2014 many people are complaining.
