She shares her knowledge with them, teaching them how to live well with one another, as the Bible instructs.

This class has borne much fruit because everyone in the village can testify to its impact. In this sense, “looking up” means looking at the mango trees. When mango season comes, it significantly reduces hunger. In about a month, mangos will be everywhere, and people will breathe a huge sigh of relief regarding food insecurity. Here are some things that happen when mangos are in season:

Those who own mango trees are happy because they can sell the mangos and earn some money.

Many young women and men start trading mangos—those who don’t own mango trees buy mangos from others and then sell them in places like Trou-du-Nord or Cap-Haïtien.

Motorcycle taxi drivers benefit from transporting mango vendors, which helps them make money more easily.

Parents worry less about food for their households because everyone is eating mangos—if there is nothing else at home, they can still get by.

Children whose parents have mango trees enjoy inviting other kids without trees to share mangos with them.

For all these reasons and many more, people in the village of Cahess can hardly wait to see the mangos start ripening.

So, the arrival of mango season brings both economic opportunities and a sense of communal sharing.

Pastor Coty Joseph

A great relief for a hungry people!!

The Trees are beginning to Bear Fruit

Pastor Coty Writes:

The fruit trees we bought are doing wonderfully!
