{"id":3191,"date":"2024-05-18T17:45:03","date_gmt":"2024-05-18T21:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=3191"},"modified":"2024-07-15T08:57:43","modified_gmt":"2024-07-15T12:57:43","slug":"april-2024-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=3191","title":{"rendered":"April 2024 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Coastal Haiti Mission Newsletter<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0April 2024 <\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0ELEPHANTUS<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>Years ago I saw a documentary about rogue \u201cteen-age\u201d elephants who were<\/p>\n<p>tormenting and killing White Rhinoceros, an animal listed as an endangered<\/p>\n<p>species. The young elephants would fill their trunks with water and spray the<\/p>\n<p>unsuspecting rhinos, causing more than a little annoyance and aggravation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I recall, the juvenile <em>elephantus<\/em> had been taken from their herd and were<\/p>\n<p>transported to another part of their country in an effort to reproduce in that<\/p>\n<p>area.\u00a0 For awhile, all efforts to change the behavior of the young bullies had<\/p>\n<p>failed until one idea was productive. Mature male elephants were brought<\/p>\n<p>into the area who then taught the undisciplined troublemakers how to live and let<\/p>\n<p>live.\u00a0 Killing of the rhinos soon ended!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You might say the youngsters were \u201cmentored\u201d by the adult elephants, which<\/p>\n<p>brings me to my point.\u00a0 I believe we need more mentors in the Body of Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Especially \u2013 but not exclusively \u2013 for new Christians of all ages.\u00a0 Too often, it<\/p>\n<p>seems to me, new Christians are left alone to traverse this new way of life<\/p>\n<p>without adequate guidance and care.\u00a0 (One or two hours on Sunday morning, and<\/p>\n<p>maybe one hour midweek is not enough.)\u00a0 They need loving, caring, and available<\/p>\n<p>adults, mature in the faith, to take them by the hand and work to strengthen them<\/p>\n<p>as they begin their walk with Jesus.\u00a0 And, yes, I think they need a decent serving<\/p>\n<p>of theology, church history, and perhaps some knowledge of apologetics.\u00a0 Both<\/p>\n<p>the Nicene and Apostles creeds are adequate sources of basic Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They need to know about the Trinity, the necessity of baptism, and the sacredness<\/p>\n<p>of communion.\u00a0 To know that when they partake of the bread and cup, they are<\/p>\n<p>identifying with believers throughout the world of every race, color, and tribe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>How many new Christians have been discouraged because they were not prepared<\/p>\n<p>to give a concise and intelligent answer concerning their conversion experience<\/p>\n<p>to unbelieving spouses, family, and friends?\u00a0 They need to know how to identify<\/p>\n<p>and link their experience with Jesus Christ to that of millions who, for over the last<\/p>\n<p>2,000 years have chosen to follow the Good Shepherd.\u00a0 They need to understand<\/p>\n<p>the bond and affiliation they have with the early church fathers, missionaries and<\/p>\n<p>pioneers from whom all Christian denominations have eventually come into being.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unbelieving family members need to know their loved one has not joined a cult.<\/p>\n<p>I have personally known of two instances where Christians were called cult<\/p>\n<p>members following their conversions to Christ.\u00a0 They both attended a Baptist<\/p>\n<p>Church (certainly not a cult)!<\/p>\n<p>Also, I don\u2019t think that new believers should be called upon to teach a Sunday<\/p>\n<p>School class.\u00a0 They need to be seated in the congregation on Sunday mornings.<\/p>\n<p>They need time for growth.\u00a0 As Paul said to the church in Corinthians (all new<\/p>\n<p>Christians):\u00a0 <em>\u201cWhat we\u2019re hoping for is that as your lives GROW IN FAITH, <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>you\u2019ll play a part within our expanding work.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>(Embedded\u00a0 in II Cor. 10:15 The Message)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My late husband, Clint Goddard, and I came to the Lord during the Charismatic<\/p>\n<p>Renewal which spread throughout the world in the 1960s.\u00a0 We were led to the<\/p>\n<p>Lord \u2013 one week apart \u2013 by a man and his wife living in our neighborhood.\u00a0 We<\/p>\n<p>were soundly converted!\u00a0 We were mentored and nurtured by this couple for<\/p>\n<p>many months.\u00a0 Also, through them, we were introduced to a fellowship called<\/p>\n<p>Full Gospel Business Men\u2019s Fellowship, Inc., giving us access to hours of<\/p>\n<p>lectures and teaching from among some of the most beloved and best Bible<\/p>\n<p>teachers of the day: Derek Prince, Bob Mumford, David Duplisses from<\/p>\n<p>South Africa, Jack Hayford, and others.\u00a0 Good, solid, Bible teaching.\u00a0 Building<\/p>\n<p>on the Rock!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And so, I know the importance of early instruction and care for the new convert.<\/p>\n<p>I am also aware that many churches do have a class for new believers.\u00a0 I applaud<\/p>\n<p>that effort.\u00a0 I hope it goes far enough.\u00a0 Remember the juvenile elephants?\u00a0 We<\/p>\n<p>need mentors \u2013 one on one. The pastor can\u2019t do it all!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Walking this Way with you,<\/p>\n<p>Connie<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The School Lunch Program <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When we talk about the school lunch program, many people think about the <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>children as the beneficiaries. Yes, they are the first ones to benefit from the <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>food, but they are not the only ones. A day without food would be a disaster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>and a very strange day for both the students and the teachers. This is because<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> the food solves one of their common problems.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>According to our timetable, we serve the food every day at 10 AM. She <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>comes when she knows that the lunch is ready. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>However, we cannot give her enough food to take home, because this food is <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>for the school children and the teachers. However, as crazy is she, people in <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>her house are always expecting that she will bring some food to them. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Today she was acting very good. She knew what day it was, and she told me <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>how she would cook the food, as well as many other good things. Then I took <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>her to the depot where the food is stored, and I gave her enough food for two <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>days. I also gave her some money to buy other items to mix with the rice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I can imagine the joy of the people who live with her, when they saw her <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>coming with these provisions. As crazy\u00a0as she is, people who live together with <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>her, are counting on her to eat some days. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eating is still an occasional thing for many people. The hardest thing most of the time is to have them <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>want to come to the class. For us, we say Praise the Lord, because we find a<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> way of having the kids want to come to class. In the village the kids don&#8217;t have <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>any other religion. They all confess Jesus as their personal Savior, and they <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>know bible quotations much better\u00a0than the adults. Some come to church on <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, while others don&#8217;t come, but all know\u00a0Jesus, and this is our joy. They<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> don\u2019t want to miss the Saturday Class any reason.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When they come to the class on Saturday, there are two things that they may <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>not know: first is the subject they will study for that day, and second is what <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>they will get to eat for that day. But for sure, they will study a lesson and for<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> sure, they will get something to eat.
