\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0ELEPHANTUS<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Years ago I saw a documentary about rogue \u201cteen-age\u201d elephants who were<\/p>\n

tormenting and killing White Rhinoceros, an animal listed as an endangered<\/p>\n

species. The young elephants would fill their trunks with water and spray the<\/p>\n

unsuspecting rhinos, causing more than a little annoyance and aggravation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As I recall, the juvenile elephantus<\/em> had been taken from their herd and were<\/p>\n

transported to another part of their country in an effort to reproduce in that<\/p>\n

area.\u00a0 For awhile, all efforts to change the behavior of the young bullies had<\/p>\n

failed until one idea was productive. Mature male elephants were brought<\/p>\n

into the area who then taught the undisciplined troublemakers how to live and let<\/p>\n

live.\u00a0 Killing of the rhinos soon ended!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You might say the youngsters were \u201cmentored\u201d by the adult elephants, which<\/p>\n

brings me to my point.\u00a0 I believe we need more mentors in the Body of Christ.<\/p>\n

Especially \u2013 but not exclusively \u2013 for new Christians of all ages.\u00a0 Too often, it<\/p>\n

seems to me, new Christians are left alone to traverse this new way of life<\/p>\n

without adequate guidance and care.\u00a0 (One or two hours on Sunday morning, and<\/p>\n

maybe one hour midweek is not enough.)\u00a0 They need loving, caring, and available<\/p>\n

adults, mature in the faith, to take them by the hand and work to strengthen them<\/p>\n

as they begin their walk with Jesus.\u00a0 And, yes, I think they need a decent serving<\/p>\n

of theology, church history, and perhaps some knowledge of apologetics.\u00a0 Both<\/p>\n

the Nicene and Apostles creeds are adequate sources of basic Christianity.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They need to know about the Trinity, the necessity of baptism, and the sacredness<\/p>\n

of communion.\u00a0 To know that when they partake of the bread and cup, they are<\/p>\n

identifying with believers throughout the world of every race, color, and tribe.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How many new Christians have been discouraged because they were not prepared<\/p>\n

to give a concise and intelligent answer concerning their conversion experience<\/p>\n

to unbelieving spouses, family, and friends?\u00a0 They need to know how to identify<\/p>\n

and link their experience with Jesus Christ to that of millions who, for over the last<\/p>\n

2,000 years have chosen to follow the Good Shepherd.\u00a0 They need to understand<\/p>\n

the bond and affiliation they have with the early church fathers, missionaries and<\/p>\n

pioneers from whom all Christian denominations have eventually come into being.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Unbelieving family members need to know their loved one has not joined a cult.<\/p>\n

I have personally known of two instances where Christians were called cult<\/p>\n

members following their conversions to Christ.\u00a0 They both attended a Baptist<\/p>\n

Church (certainly not a cult)!<\/p>\n

Also, I don\u2019t think that new believers should be called upon to teach a Sunday<\/p>\n

School class.\u00a0 They need to be seated in the congregation on Sunday mornings.<\/p>\n

They need time for growth.\u00a0 As Paul said to the church in Corinthians (all new<\/p>\n

Christians):\u00a0 \u201cWhat we\u2019re hoping for is that as your lives GROW IN FAITH, <\/em><\/p>\n

you\u2019ll play a part within our expanding work.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>(Embedded\u00a0 in II Cor. 10:15 The Message)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My late husband, Clint Goddard, and I came to the Lord during the Charismatic<\/p>\n

Renewal which spread throughout the world in the 1960s.\u00a0 We were led to the<\/p>\n

Lord \u2013 one week apart \u2013 by a man and his wife living in our neighborhood.\u00a0 We<\/p>\n

were soundly converted!\u00a0 We were mentored and nurtured by this couple for<\/p>\n

many months.\u00a0 Also, through them, we were introduced to a fellowship called<\/p>\n

Full Gospel Business Men\u2019s Fellowship, Inc., giving us access to hours of<\/p>\n

lectures and teaching from among some of the most beloved and best Bible<\/p>\n

teachers of the day: Derek Prince, Bob Mumford, David Duplisses from<\/p>\n

South Africa, Jack Hayford, and others.\u00a0 Good, solid, Bible teaching.\u00a0 Building<\/p>\n

on the Rock!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And so, I know the importance of early instruction and care for the new convert.<\/p>\n

I am also aware that many churches do have a class for new believers.\u00a0 I applaud<\/p>\n

that effort.\u00a0 I hope it goes far enough.\u00a0 Remember the juvenile elephants?\u00a0 We<\/p>\n

need mentors \u2013 one on one. The pastor can\u2019t do it all!<\/p>\n

The School Lunch Program <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we talk about the school lunch program, many people think about the <\/strong><\/p>\n

children as the beneficiaries. Yes, they are the first ones to benefit from the <\/strong><\/p>\n

food, but they are not the only ones. A day without food would be a disaster<\/strong><\/p>\n

and a very strange day for both the students and the teachers. This is because<\/strong><\/p>\n

the food solves one of their common problems.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to our timetable, we serve the food every day at 10 AM. Then, <\/strong><\/p>\n

after\u00a0lunch, the kids get another 15 minute break so they can relax before <\/strong><\/p>\n

going back to class.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finishing the New School Building<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We always want to thank everyone who contributes to the work for the benefit <\/strong><\/p>\n

of our\u00a0community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This time we want to thank brother Carl Lamour, who has supported a small <\/strong><\/p>\n

but costly project. It was stuccoing the interior of the 4 classrooms that we had <\/strong><\/p>\n

already built.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are almost finished with the inside. \u00a0We hope that someday we can <\/strong><\/p>\n

complete the inside and possibly do the outside work as well. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was a very good start to finishing this school building.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Food for the Needy Program <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lady in the photos below is known in the village as a crazy lady, but she <\/strong><\/p>\n

knows to come to the school to get something to eat, every school day. She <\/strong><\/p>\n

comes when she knows that the lunch is ready. <\/strong><\/p>\n

However, we cannot give her enough food to take home, because this food is <\/strong><\/p>\n

for the school children and the teachers. However, as crazy is she, people in <\/strong><\/p>\n

her house are always expecting that she will bring some food to them. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Today she was acting very good. She knew what day it was, and she told me <\/strong><\/p>\n

how she would cook the food, as well as many other good things. Then I took <\/strong><\/p>\n

her to the depot where the food is stored, and I gave her enough food for two <\/strong><\/p>\n

days. I also gave her some money to buy other items to mix with the rice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I can imagine the joy of the people who live with her, when they saw her <\/strong><\/p>\n

coming with these provisions. As crazy\u00a0as she is, people who live together with <\/strong><\/p>\n

her, are counting on her to eat some days. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Eating is still an occasional thing for many people. Helping them to get <\/strong><\/p>\n

something to eat is always a good ministry. <\/strong><\/p>\n

It takes peoples\u2019 effort, and money to help in this way, but the results are <\/strong><\/p>\n

significant, and the eternal rewards will be even greater. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Food to take home.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saturday Sunday School<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>When teaching, you always need to keep the attention of the students so that<\/strong><\/p>\n

they get what you teach. The hardest thing most of the time is to have them <\/strong><\/p>\n

want to come to the class. For us, we say Praise the Lord, because we find a<\/strong><\/p>\n

way of having the kids want to come to class. In the village the kids don’t have <\/strong><\/p>\n

any other religion. They all confess Jesus as their personal Savior, and they <\/strong><\/p>\n

know bible quotations much better\u00a0than the adults. Some come to church on <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sunday, while others don’t come, but all know\u00a0Jesus, and this is our joy. They<\/strong><\/p>\n

don\u2019t want to miss the Saturday Class any reason.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

When they come to the class on Saturday, there are two things that they may <\/strong><\/p>\n

not know: first is the subject they will study for that day, and second is what <\/strong><\/p>\n

they will get to eat for that day. But for sure, they will study a lesson and for<\/strong><\/p>\n

sure, they will get something to eat. It is the second reason why none of them <\/strong><\/p>\n

would want to miss a class.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is the treats that encourages them to come.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Drought Resistant Garden Project <\/strong><\/p>\n

Today is a very special day for the students. They have been invited to <\/strong><\/p>\n

participate in a training session, taught by Agronomists Yamoutch Bazile and <\/strong><\/p>\n

Jean Ely Toussaint (Jeff). I could feel the joy of the students as they <\/strong><\/p>\n

participated in this extra class. Nobody complained of being required to <\/strong><\/p>\n

attend this class.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A most important lesson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life in the Village <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes people may ask, \u201chow do the village people cook when they are <\/strong><\/p>\n

away from home?\u201d These images will show one way. It is a very old way of <\/strong><\/p>\n

creating a fire for cooking.<\/strong><\/p>\n

First a hole is dug next to some rocks. The rocks will support the pan. The<\/strong><\/p>\n

hole is shaped such that the firewood will be placed under the pan. This is a \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

fast way of making a cooking fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n
