{"id":2753,"date":"2023-02-25T21:04:10","date_gmt":"2023-02-26T02:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=2753"},"modified":"2023-02-26T18:19:26","modified_gmt":"2023-02-26T23:19:26","slug":"february-2023-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/coastalhaitimission.org\/?page_id=2753","title":{"rendered":"February 2023 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Coastal Haiti Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>February 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>THE DAYS OF NOAH<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cJust as it was in the days of Noah\u2026\u201d <\/em>(Luke 11:26)\u00a0 Hmm, just what <em>was <\/em>it like in the \u201cdays of Noah?\u201d\u00a0 Well, they ate, they drank, they got married \u2013 in other words, it was business as usual.\u00a0 The backdrop in Noah\u2019s time of \u201clife as usual?\u201d Depravity, violence, desecration, debasement, viciousness, corruption, and lust for power (Gen. 6:11&amp;12 TAB).\u00a0 It was past the tipping point.\u00a0 God, In His mercy, would destroy the world.<\/p>\n<p>Having spurned God\u2019s striving to reign them in, mankind had lost its true direction.<\/p>\n<p>Only one man among them was found righteous before God.\u00a0 A man called \u201cNoah.\u201d\u00a0 He and his household, pairs of animals and birds for reproduction and sacrifice would be saved from destruction brought about by a world-wide flood.<\/p>\n<p>Noah was to build an ark according to directions given him by the Lord, Himself.<\/p>\n<p>Talk about persecution!\u00a0 Building a boat too large to be moved on his own property.\u00a0 (It hadn\u2019t even rained yet upon the earth at that time!)\u00a0 I can picture it all now, the accusations and humiliation Noah must have suffered at the whim of his fellow man.\u00a0 A first class laughingstock: <em>\u201cHave you seen Noah lately? You know, the ole\u2019 guy building a monstrous boat in his back yard?\u201d <\/em>Must have thought he was a prize fool.<\/p>\n<p>But the day came.\u00a0 Noah and his family, along with the animals and birds were safely in the ark.\u00a0 And the rains came, oh, the rains came!\u00a0 The waters of the great deep burst forth and the windows and floodgates of the heavens were opened (Gen. 7:11).<\/p>\n<p>The ark rose.\u00a0 I imagine the neighbors \u2013 at that point \u2013 had adjusted their opinion of Brother Noah and his amazing lifeboat!!\u00a0 If only they had believed God\u2019s Word that came through Noah, they, too, would have been welcomed aboard the ark.<\/p>\n<p>But now\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Too late.\u00a0 The horse was out of the gate.\u00a0 This ship had set sail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as it was in the days of Noah\u2026\u201d\u00a0 As sure as the rains came in the days of Noah, some day (probably sooner than later) Jesus Christ will return to this earth to gather His people from the four winds and take them to heaven.. It will be during a time of \u201cbusiness as usual,\u201d you know \u2013 eating and drinking and giving in marriage.\u00a0 And the backdrop will not look like a Norman Rockwell painting of a long-ago time in rural America. Things are changing fast.\u00a0 Our country is in deep trouble.\u00a0 Not because of inflation,\u00a0 not because of hostile enemies,\u00a0 not because of climate change, and not because we may have to chuck our gas stoves.\u00a0 It is because we, at large, have turned away from the God Who made us and prospered us as a nation beyond all expectation.\u00a0 The Name \u201cJesus\u201d and the mention of our God in general have been put out of the public square.\u00a0 But Jesus is our place of safety.\u00a0 If you are \u2018in\u201d Jesus \u2013 if you are a Christ follower, than you are in the ark!\u00a0 If you do not know Him there is still time to call upon His Name and be forever secure in His love.<\/p>\n<p>In the Library of Congress in Washington, DC there is engraved in the ceiling part of a poem published in 1850, written by Poet Alfred Lord Tennyson in a memorial to his young friend who passed away unexpectedly in 1833:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOne God, one law, one element, and one far off<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 divine event to which the whole creation moves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now just what Lord Tennyson meant by <strong><em>\u201cone far off divine event,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> is not related in accounts of the poem entitled <em>\u201cA Memorium.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>But I think I know, and I think you do too!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Words of Jesus from the 24<sup>th<\/sup> Chapter of Matthew<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The arrival of the Son of Man will take place<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 in times like Noah\u2019s.\u00a0 Before the great flood <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 everyone was carrying on AS\u00a0 USUAL having<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a good time right up to the day Noah boarded<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the ark.\u00a0 They knew nothing \u2013 until the flood <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 hit and swept everything away.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 it.\u00a0 Unready people<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 all over the world, outsiders to the splendor and<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 power, will raise a huge lament as they watch the<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Son of Man blazing out of heaven.\u00a0 At that same<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 moment, he\u2019ll dispatch His angels with a trumpet<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 -blast summons, pulling in God\u2019s chosen from<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0the four winds, from pole to pole.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Village<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Today is February 3rd, exactly 3 full months without one drop of rain on our village. It is very dry all around us, and no gardens can survive in these conditions.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last year, we had a flood that washed away all the gardens. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This year, like many years in the past, people are losing their gardens because there has been no rain. It is a sad story, because we know that the whole village relies on the produce from the gardens, and the raising of animals, to survive. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the gardens that I visited would shock you, just by looking at them. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the people in the village were talking about how much they had spent on their gardens, with the hope that they would get a productive harvest. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Unfortunately, the opposite is true.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I noticed a big difference in a garden where the owner watered a part of the garden, because he could not water the whole garden. This will give you a better idea of the terrible results of this drought. (see photos)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some years ago, we lost many animals due to the lack of rain. Milourde&#8217;s main activity is to sell milk for some of the people in the village, who then pay her part of the proceeds. She sells the milk in the open market at the nearest town, which is Trou-du-Nord. It is not an easy job, to carry a 5 gallon bucket of milk on her head every morning. Sometimes she carries an additional bucket of milk with her hands. She carries the milk for a distance of 3 kilometers which is about 1.9 miles. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>She does this because she is a strong lady and a hard worker. She also has to take care of 3 grandchildren, because their mother passed away 4 years ago. Additionally, she has to care for 2 of her own children, who are unemployed and also her husband who is an alcoholic. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This season is very tough for Milourde, because she is not able to find milk to take to market, due to the drought. The schools had been shut down during the previous several months because of the many protests including road closures that occurred. Some schools tried to have classes with the students not wearing their uniforms, but this just angered the protesters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the children come from far away. With 100 US dollars, I can buy only 3 small bags of rice, whereas 4 years ago, I could buy up to 5 bags. It&#8217;s the same reality with oil, beans and everything else. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Life is more difficult, and we have more children in our school every year. So, I am limited to purchasing only rice and beans. This shipment, consisting of 4 boxes, is scheduled to arrive in the City of Cap-Haitien in early March. \u00a0We will notify you when the shipment arrives. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Discovery of Talents and Skills <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pastor Coty Writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Everyone can do something. Some skills are hidden but they are around us. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This young man is in Cahess.\u00a0 He excels at working with wood and makes beautiful furniture. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>His name is Phanor. He told me that he went to school in Trou-du-Nord some years ago to learn to be a carpenter. Now he is married and with his skills he takes care of his family, when he can get a job. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It is sad to hear that he cannot find any work from the people in the Village of Cahess.
